A form that holds a moment in the hand
For many of us, a ring is the most personal piece of jewellery. We fill it with deeper meaning over time, through the life we live and the decisions we make. Maria Kobelova designs rings with as much attention to the sensation while wearing as to their aesthetics – to the way a continuous, organic form sits against the hand and accompanies the wearer.
Maria believes the form of a ring should carry the whole piece on its own. Every design takes shape as a wax model in her hands, which infuses the resulting jewellery with a sculptural quality – a distinct sense of mass, of abstraction, of proportion. Her work spans from bold, substantial forms such as the statement ring XXX, through the organic, fluid contours of Flow and Holo, to the finer, more minimalist lines of the Usus collection.
Where a stone is introduced – be it a garnet, a peridot, a diamond, or any other gemstone – it is set so that it becomes a natural part of the form, continuing its lines. This approach goes furthest in bespoke work and in the Doux series, where Maria builds the shape directly around the stone, so that the stone itself flows into the curve of the ring.
We cast the rings in sterling silver and 14k gold – yellow, rose, and white – and in 18k gold upon request, with the same attention given to every material. Selected designs can bring together different shades of gold, or combine silver and gold in two-toned rings.
